Orion News - 12th May 2013
Fun-a-thon
We would like all entries in by 21st May 2013 so please can you fill them in as soon as possible. The hope is that all of you will enter something and many will do individual AND relay events. Whilst it is pleasing to have so many adults with a sudden urge to timekeep/marshal etc. you are not fooling anyone (Mike) so get those entry forms in soon please.
Junior Head Coach
I am delighted to announce that Rob Guest has agreed to take up this post from September. Rob comes highly recommended for the role and we are confident his enthusiasm and knowledge will lead to a continuing of the good work of his predecessors.
Rob's 'biog':
I started swimming at the age of 4, and won the County Championships from age 10 to 15. At my best I captained Derventio Excel, and came 13th in the National 16 years 50m freestyle
I started my coaching career at my boarding college, Welbeck DSFC. It lacked a quality coaching infrastructure, and so I stepped in to coach my peers who all progressed to the English Schools Finals.
It was then a similar story when I came to Aston University to study Mechanical Engineering. I joined the Aston Swimming and Water Polo team as their Swimming Coach, driving the team to Most Improved Club of 2011-2012 and Club of the Year 2012-2013, which was a tremendous achievement for all of us.
I'm currently observing at City of Birmingham, working with the coaching team there to further my coaching experience and knowledge.
I am also sponsored by the Royal Navy, on a career path to become an Engineering Officer. I have had quite a lot of military training from the age of 15, and a fair amount of insight to military life along my journey. I will be more than happy to talk to any of you if you have military career path in mind.
I'm extremely excited to work with all of you in this new venture - see you in the pool!
Rob
