Junior League - Round 2 - 11th May 2013
The second round of the Nuneaton and District Junior League took place at Wyndley Leisure centre on the 11th May.
Again another strong performance from Orion and again finished a solid 3rd with 198 points which is an improvement over the first round's 185 points. I am very proud of everyone who took part and this shows that our strong performance wasn't a one off and there is more to come for the third round, which is on the 22nd June. Teamer invitations will be sent shortly. The team will (hopefully) be identical to those who swam in the 2nd round so please keep this date free.
The raw speed and technique of the Orion swimmers was superb and what is clear is that in the following weeks more dive practise is needed which I will endeavour to add in but I hope you understand that this can be time consuming and difficult in sessions with a high number of young swimmers needing individual support, so bear with me.
To reward all swimmers for their efforts over the first and second round we will be playing water polo on Thursday 23rd May 6.00pm to 7.30pm at KEBS. For those swimmers not in the junior group who wish to play please ask your respective coach (except Gabriel you are too big!).
Attached are the results of the first and second round with times and places recorded and below is a list of first places and special mentions.
In this round we were unfortunately unable to swim the two 9yr girls' relays due to insufficient swimmers turning up and I am sorry that the 9yr girls who did turn up and who had less swims than expected because of this.
Thank you to Clara Day and Karen Watson for sending the swimmers up for their races and Martin Hammersley, Richard Hindle and Pippa Sibbald for officiating and to Carl for his help with the warm up and swimmer feedback during the competition.

Haden Hill Open Meet 12th May 2013
Four Orion swimmers took part in the Haden Hill Open Meet and performed very well.
Alex Hindle acieved first place in both the 50m backstroke and the 100m freestyle, this was in the 9 & 10 year old age group. Alex would have gained another medal in the 200 freestyle but the age category in the 200m events was altered to cover the 9 year old to 13 year old swimmers.
Daniel Hindle also swam in the 9 & 10 year old age group and achieved personal best times in the two swims in which he competed, the 50m backstroke and the 50m freestyle. Daniel gave 100% effort in the 50m freestyle but could have given a little more thought to his technique.
Niamh Heneghan competed in three events and achieved personal best times in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Niamh is improving her breaststroke times at a rapid rate at the moment, her 50m breaststroke swim was a personal best time by 3.5 seconds.
Holly White also competed in three events but had taken a' turn for the worse' overnight and was not feeling very well. After competing well the night before in the Junior League the illness kicked in and Holly's times were a little slower than normal. Holly almost pulled out of the 50m freestyle but bravely decided to give it a go and swam a decent time under the circumstances.
Well done swimmers, I enjoyed the Open Meet and hope to rally the Club's swimmers together and target the forthcoming Boldmere Water Carnival in July.
